alsThis is an exciting time of year as The ALS Association, Greater Philadelphia Chapter prepares for the Walk to Defeat ALS season. Each year, more than 140,000 patients, men, women, children and corporations join together to help The ALS Association to accelerate the discovery of the cause and cure of ALS, and to provide vital core program and services that are so desperately needed by ALS patients and their families. Now in its tenth year, approximately 150 Walks will be held around the country in 2010.

Included below is information about ALS, The ALS Association and the Walk to Defeat ALS. Please help us spread awareness about ALS and the Walk to Defeat ALS by forwarding this message to your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers - anyone and everyone who will join the fight against this devastating disease.

What is ALS?
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe.

1. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages two to five years from the time of diagnosis.
2. Every 90 minutes someone in this country is diagnosed with ALS, and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease.
3. ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease. Someone you know or love may die from ALS unless a cure is found.
4. Caring for a loved one with ALS costs on average of $200,000 each year.

The ALS Association is the only national not-for-profit health organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS. The mission of The ALS Association is to find a cure for and improve living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The ALS Association provides help and hope to patients and families impacted by the disease by funding research, patient and community services, public education, and advocacy efforts on a local and national level.

Lou Gehrig walked 1,508 times for his team. How about walking once for ours? Please join us in the Walk to Defeat ALS by registering to walk and/or making a donation by visiting our team page from the link below.

Home Helpers will be participating at the Lehigh Valley Walk to Defeat ALS on October 23, 2010 at the Iron Pigs Field.

Hello,

I am writing on behalf of Klik Marketing who is helping sponsor an event in Atlanta, Georgia. It’s called Jenny’s Walk to Defeat ALS and it is on November 6th at Centennial Park. We have put together a press release that I think it would be great fit for this blog.

Please let me know if you have any questions or require any additional information. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Jessica Herman

Jenny’s Walk to Defeat ALS

Join Jenny and Team DeMario for the walk to defeat ALS on November 6, 2010 at Centennial Park in Atlanta, GA. As ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease), hits close to home for Jenny, it affects many people each year in the United States and all over the world.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a rapidly progressive and fatal neurological disease that attacks the nerve cells. Those with ALS lose the ability to control their voluntary muscles. The disease makes it difficult for people to swallow, speak, walk and breathe. Every 90 minutes, a person is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes, someone loses the battle to the disease.

This walk was started by Jenny and her family in loving memory of her father. This will be the 3rd year that they will do the walk for ALS. This is an incredible opportunity to support those who are affected by ALS, raise money for the cause spread awareness, and ultimately find a cure for this crippling and fatal disease.
